Giveaway and a Freebie
We are having a book study at school over the next six weeks. We are reading and discussing The End of Molasses Classes by Ron Clark. It is such an inspiring book! My dream is now to go to RCA for a Educator Training Program...it would be so awesome! I seem to be having a rough year and need all the inspiration I can get. Each day I come home and reflect - wondering what I could do different...what could I do to stop a child from exploding several times a day. It's exhausting!
Don't forget about the giveaway I'm having that ends on Friday. If you haven't stopped by, click here. Who couldn't use a gift certificate to TpT!
I have also just uploaded a freebie to TpT. There are two board games for students to practice math addition facts. Just click on the picture to go get them.
I have so many ideas bouncing around in my head of things to make...I just can't seem to find any spare time to work on them. Maybe I will find some time this weekend....

Martin Luther King, Jr. Activities
Here are a few pictures of Friday’s MLK, Jr.
activities that we did. The art
activity has been on other blogs, but I didn’t use the directions. I gave the kids paper and step-by-step
told them what to cut out. I love
them!
After the art activity, each child had to write a
“I Have A Dream” speech. As you
can see from these pictures, there was some thought put into many of them. Some of the speeches include things such
as a cure for cancer, a woman president, stop littering, and a stop to
bullying. I have a couple of
favorites – one says that criminals should change their act if they want to see
God and the other one talks about dreaming that she and her sister would get
along and they will guide each other step by step.
I have to say that I had another good day
today. I really enjoy these days
because I actually feel like the students are learning. The teachers at my school are on edge. With the new evaluation system, we are
all awaiting our “pop-in” evaluation visit. It would be nice if we had a smaller time frame – we have
been told it could happen between now and the end of March.
I have uploaded a new 1st Grade
Treasures unit on Teachers Pay Teachers.
It is for Unit 5, Week 1.
The story is Olivia. Click
on the picture below to go to it.
Have a great week!

Sending Love to Joplin
It is so wonderful to know that there are so many teachers that are willing to help out other teachers! Mrs. Wills Kindergarten is throwing an linky
party to help teachers in Joplin, Missouri that lost most of their stuff in the tornadoes last year. DeeDee
thought it would uplift their spirits to send them some units from TPT
and Teacher's Notebook. You can join in the party by clicking the heart
below. I hope you can find a way to help out!
I spent time last night doing the snow dance...praying for a snow day today...was woken up this morning by a phone call from our district saying we were going 1 hour late. Ugh! We all know that days like this - our kids are WILD! With the year I am having...I really just wanted to crawl back under my covers this morning. This is the toughest class I've ever had. To my amazement, it was so calm in my classroom today. My kids were WONDERFUL!!!! They were well behaved and did the best writing today on MLK, Jr. I was a proud teacher at the end of today. I forgot to take pictures of what we did. I will take them on Tuesday and post.
Enjoy your weekend!

This was the first week back to school since Christmas Break and I am exhausted! It has been a very bumpy week for me - I am hoping that it is better next week. The forecast is calling for some snow tonight, so I hope I have an extra day off tomorrow.
We have been working on r-controlled vowels this week and here is the fun we had...first we read the story from Babbling Abby and her Aargh unit. We had a word hunt and placed the words we found on our treasure map. Then the kids made a pirate that they LOVED! Here are some pictures.
I seen this book over on Soaring Through Second Grade and had to get it. I have had a lot of problems this year with tattling and I am willing to try anything to stop it.

I read it to the class today and they thought it was great. I highly recommend this book because it talks about the types of tattling and when you should tattle and when you shouldn't.
I hope you have a great Friday! I am hoping to post some freebies this weekend. Be on the watch for them.
