Martin Luther King, Jr. Activities

Here are a few pictures of Friday’s MLK, Jr. activities that we did.  The art activity has been on other blogs, but I didn’t use the directions.  I gave the kids paper and step-by-step told them what to cut out.  I love them!

After the art activity, each child had to write a “I Have A Dream” speech.  As you can see from these pictures, there was some thought put into many of them.  Some of the speeches include things such as a cure for cancer, a woman president, stop littering, and a stop to bullying.  I have a couple of favorites – one says that criminals should change their act if they want to see God and the other one talks about dreaming that she and her sister would get along and they will guide each other step by step.

I have to say that I had another good day today.  I really enjoy these days because I actually feel like the students are learning.  The teachers at my school are on edge.  With the new evaluation system, we are all awaiting our “pop-in” evaluation visit.  It would be nice if we had a smaller time frame – we have been told it could happen between now and the end of March.
I have uploaded a new 1st Grade Treasures unit on Teachers Pay Teachers.  It is for Unit 5, Week 1.  The story is Olivia.  Click on the picture below to go to it.

Have a great week!
